Whenever you make the mistake of getting married for the wrong reasons, your union has less of a chance to survive for very long. You may find yourself searching for the perfect person to make you happy before you get married. Instead, people should focus on getting married to someone who they can’t live without and who they would do anything to make happy over the years. You need to put the happiness of your spouse ahead of happiness for yourself which some find to be a very difficult job.

The Bible is a great source for the strength that you need to do this. No matter what type of problems that you experience in your marriage, you should be able to use the following quotes to help get through them.

1. Mark 8:36 – “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world yet forfeit his own soul?” It is not necessary for people to put their own identities on the back burner in order to devote their lives to their partner.

2. I Corinthians 13:4&5 – “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” This verse is pretty straightforward, so make sure that you read it and understand it completely.

3. I Corinthians 7:27 – “Are you married? Do not seek a divorce.” It’s not that hard to understand this verse either. To divorce is to directly go against His will, no matter what the mores of the world may tell you.

4. Proverbs 15:17 – “Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred.” You definitely shouldn’t use financial problems as a reason to get divorced. Couples vow to stay with each other through thick and thin so remember your promise.

5. Luke 6:37 – “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven”. Although this message was delivered specificaly in regards to people you view as enemies, it also applies to those who you love too.
