Choosing to become a good wife and mother is the key to respect for women in the society of Russia. The concept of a woman some how missing out by staying at home and raising her children is a foreign concept in Russia. Providing a warm home is the most honorable thing a woman can do. A woman who is unmarried by the age of 25 is viewed with suspicion by the rest of society.

The way to a high social status for a woman in Russia is to get married. This is not to say that women are adverse to hard work. Women firmly believe that is the responsibility of the woman to provide a warm, supportive and loving home while the man goes out to provide the finances for her family. It is a harder job for women to provide this type of home in Russia than it is in other societies. The gadgets that make looking after a home easier in other societies just aren’t available to most Russians.

It is accepted and seen as a vital part of a family for a woman to be dependent on her husband for financial security. There is no shame in this. It is traditional in a Russian family for all the members of it to be reliant on each other. A clue to the reason for the importance of family dependence in Russia can be found in their living arrangements. Often three generations will live together and this leads to cooperation, understanding and a sense of being reliant on each other.

Russian women tend to be resourceful. Years of difficulties and struggle have made them very good at being patient but determined and finding ways around the most apparently insurmountable problems. Russian husbands often think that they have cleverly solved a problem when really it was their wives that masterminded the whole thing.

The stereotype of Russian women as beautiful, but stupid, is clearly untrue. With their intelligence, work ethic and attitude to family it is no surprise that more and more men are going to Russia to find their dream bride.
